WHO WE ARE

Glitter Ball showroom & projects is an artist-run venture for contemporary art and artists – a local space for international art. We invite exciting and inspiring artists and projects to present artworks and events in our showroom on the ground floor of the Old Gymnasium.

Everyone is welcome at our show openings.  They are a great opportunity to meet the exhibiting artist(s) as well as other artists and art lovers. Outside of the opening times please contact Glitter Ball - +46 (0)70 333 6879 or hello@glitterball.se to arrange your visit. Appointments are made for mutually convenient times including evenings and weekends. Let us know if you are interested in visiting the artist’s studios that are in the same building and we will do our best to organise it.

Glitter Ball focusses on contemporary arts practice and works closely with each of the selected artists. Artistic expression is our heart and soul. Thinking like a museum and being like a family creates an environment where artists can experiment, play and take risks. We are part of a fluid network of artists’ initiatives stretching across the whole of Europe and extending to Africa, America, Australia and the far East.

Glitter Ball is in Enköping’s cultural quarter - a stones throw from the town’s art gallery and performing-arts school, and a short walk from the museum and the Joar Blå theatre, cinema and library with it’s own exhibitions and the 24-hour art-window Konstfönster Joar. Being in ’Sweden’s nearest town’ we are only 40 minutes from central Stockholm and even closer to Uppsala and Västerås.

Glitter Ball is the initiative of artist Stuart Mayes who now lives and works in Enköping, Sweden. Stuart has over thirty years experience as an artist, his own practice encompasses installation, objects and live work, as well as collaborations, projects, teaching and gallery education. He gained his degree at Dartington College of Arts and his masters at Slade School of Art (London), he has also taken professional courses at both the Royal Institute of Art and Konstfack (Stockholm).
