Supermarket Stockholm Independent Art Fair - postponed

Today the directors of Supermarket Art Fair made the decision to postpone the fair until later this year.  This announcement was made in the light of the international health situation concerning the coronavirus covid-19.

As yet no new date is confirmed.  Postponing an event such as this is the responsible thing to do under the circumstances.  Rescheduling it will demand an huge amount of additional work from the directors,  the free-lance staff and the many volunteers who enable this wonderful circus to roll into town every year.  One of the main challenges is finding and negotiating a venue that is suitable for the temporary, artist-run, low budget, internationally visited, industry respected, crazy spectacle of an affair.  We hope that the fantastic venue on Stockholm's Södermalm (south island) will still be available.

The postponement will no doubt come as no surprise to the exhibitors – many of whom are based in countries already experiencing or anticipating severe restrictions on travel and the impact of the virus socially, culturally and economically.

Artists are nothing if not resourceful and persistent!  Supermarket is far too vital an aspect of the artist-run scene for it not to happen.  The network of support ranging from individual artists, collectives, and students to project spaces, self-financing galleries, and publications, as well as local, regional and national arts organisations, embassies and international agencies that Supermarket has garnered over its twelve years should enable this temproary setback to be no more than a very unfortunate turn of events.

In the meantime, take good care.

'M' at Konstkuben, Stora torget, Uppsala

27 February to 17 March 2019

Glitter Ball's Stuart Mayes takes over Region Uppsala's mobile art gallery (Konstkuben) with his fantasy installation 'M'.

M stands for meeting place (mötesplats) – it's the symbol on the road sign to indicate where two cars can pass on a single track.  Refering to other meeting places such as parks and bars Stuart creates a space where you might encounter Mr Dandy Blue cruising in the twilight.

The work is visible day and night.  During the opening times you can go in and there is a guide on hand with further information. Open Thursdays 4 – 7pm, Fridays and Saturdays 12noon – 3pm.

Free admission and all welcome!

Presented by Region Uppsala

Konsten att delta (Uppsala) comes to Tingshuset with Anna Liljas and Stuart Mayes amongst others ...

We are happy to let you know that both Anna Liljas and Stuart Mayes, previous Glitter Ball exhibitors,  will be amongst the 14 artists showing in Enköping's Konsthall (art gallery) over Christmas and New Year!

This looks to be an exciting exhibition showcasing painting, photography, sculpture, and video art by Swedish and 'foreign born' artists.  The show is organised by artist and project coordinator Kajsa Haglund along with Johannes Ehnsmyr arts officer for the county.

Konsten att delta (The Art of Participation) is a KRO project building relationship between native and immigrant artists in Sweden.

Find more information about Konsten att delta here.

Antonie Grahamsdaughter goes to Japan!

Glitter Ball congratulates Antonie Grahamsdaughter for making a successful application to the Swedish Arts Grants Committee for a film project in Sapporo, Japan - well done Antonie!

We wish you all the best Antonie.  Have a great trip and we are already looking  forward to see the resulting film work!

Find us on Artist-Run Alliance

Glitter Ball showroom & projects is now listed with Artist-Run Alliance the online resource for artist-run initiatives across the world.  Here you will find details and link for galleries, studios, project spaces, studios and other ventures all run by artists.  It is a great way to check out what is happening globally from the comfort of your own home and is perfect for locating interesting art scenes in other countries and cities.

It is also a neat way to get in touch with artists for collaborations and international projects.

Glitter Ball's Stuart Mayes at Konstnärshuset, Stockholm

Stuart is one of 23 artists selected for the Hub 2.0 exhibition that opens this weekend at Konstnärshuset in Stockholm.  The show is a snap-shot of artists from the length and breadth of Sweden who are on the Konsten att delta (The Art of Participation) project.

Three of Stuart's glitter pieces are installed in the wonderful historic building in central Stockholm. Unfortunately the opening coincides with Antonie Grahamdaughter's vernissage at Glitter Ball showroom & projects so Stuart can't be there in person - though he will be there in spirit (and glitter!)

The exhibition continues through to 28 October 2018.

All welcome!

Gunilla is the much respected visual arts correspondent for the paper and is well know for her insightful interviews with artists exhibiting in Enköpings Konsthall.  We are delighted that she came and spent the morning with us at Glitter Ball when we chatted not only about Fredrik's show but also our intentions and ambitions.

The arts bloom on Garden Day!

Glitter Ball showroom & projects is delighted that its launch coincides with Enköping’s famous Garden Day. We are really pleased that Fredrik Nielsen’s opening of his show I WAS HERE will be one of three openings and eight art events taking place on the day.

The openings and two other exhibitions are in Enköping’s cultural quarter: Fredrik Nielsen’s I WAS HERE opens Glitter Ball showroom & projects in the Old Gymnastic Hall, then two events are in Tingshuset - Håkan Blomqvist och Karin Westman open in the Konsthall and Stig Norling in the foyer, across road there is show by four artist-educators in Konstrum Drott - the old post office, and there is also an outdoor group show in Afzelii Park.

Three other arts events are in and around the Joar Blå arts centre: The end will be good and happy - photography exhibition is in the main library, the ongoing exhibition of contemporary Swedish and British artists is in Konstfönstret Joar, and a day of performance art curated by Susanne Torstensson takes place in Dröm Park.
